Miško Šuvaković omówi dwa problemy charakterystyczne dla sztuki współczesnej: polityzację sztuki i kwestie związane z artystycznymi interwencjami w przestrzeni miejskiej. Zagadnienie polityzacji sztuki współczesnej zostanie przedstawione jako krytyczny dyskurs o roli sztuki i polityki we współczesnej globalnej przestrzeni społecznej. Zjawisko artystycznych interwencji zaprezentowane będzie na przykładach neoawangardy i doświadczeń sztuki współczesnej w południowo-wschodniej Europie, przede wszystkim w Serbii, Chorwacji i Słowenii. Wykład przybliży rolę konstrukcji teoretycznych w kształtowaniu interwencji i aktywności sztuki współczesnej.

Miško Šuvaković (ur. 1954, Jugosławia, Belgrad) jest filozofem - estetykiem, teoretykiem sztuki. Był współzałożycielem i członkiem konceptualnej formacji artystycznej „Grupa 143” (1975 – 1980) oraz nieformalnego teoretyczno – artystycznego „Ośrodka badań nad przestrzenią” (1982-1989)। Od 1988 roku jest członkiem Słoweńskiego Towarzystwa Estetycznego. Wykłada estetykę i teorię sztuki i historię sztuki współczesnej na Uniwersytecie w Belgradzie. Redaktor wielu czasopism kulturalnych, m.in.: Katalog 143 (Belgrad, 1975-78), Mentalni prostor (Belgrad, 1982-1987), Transkatalog (Nowy Sad, 1995-1998), Anomalija (Nowy Sad, 2004). Autor licznych publikacji, m.in.: Impossible Histories – Historical Avant-Gardes, Neo-avant-gardes, and Post-Avant-gardes in Yugoslavia, 1918-1991, The MIT Press, Cambridge MA; Mapiranje tijela/tijelom – Zlatko Kopljar [Mapping of the Body/with body], Meandar, Zagreb; Farenhajt 387 – Teorijske ispovesti, Orpheus, Novi Sad; Diskurzivna analiza – Prestupi i/ili pristupi ’diskurzivne analize’ filozofiji, poetici, estetici, teoriji i studijama umetnosti i kulture, Univerzitet umetnosti u Beogradu, Belgrad.

Politics in Art or problems of urban interventions
Lecture at Zachęta gallery

In his lecture Miško Šuvaković will interpret two problems characteristic of contemporary art. The politicization of art and the problem of artistic intervention in urban space. The politicization of contemporary art will be explored through a critical discussion of the role of art and politics in contemporary global social space. The phenomenon of artistic intervention will be presented through the examples of the neo-avant-gardes and contemporary art praxes in South East Europe, especially in Serbia, Croatian and Slovena. In this way the speaker will develop a theoretization of the role of interventionism and activism in contemporary art.

Miško Šuvaković (born in 1954 in Yugoslavia, Belgrade) is philosopher, theoretician of art and aesthetics. He was co-founder and member of the conceptual artistic Group 143 (1975 - 1980), and was co-founder and member of the informal theoretical and artistic "Community for Space Investigation" (1982-1989). From 1988 he has been a member of the Slovenian Aesthetic Society. In March, 1993 he earned a PhD degree on the theme "Analytical Philosophy and Theory in Art" (Faculty of Visual Arts, Belgrade University of Arts). He teaches aesthetics and theory of art at the Faculty of Music, theory of art and theory of culture on the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies Programme, and also art theory and the history of contemporary art at the Faculty of Architecture, all at the University of Arts, Belgrade. He has been a co-editor of many magazines, such as Katalog 143 (Belgrade, 1975-78), Mentalni prostor (Belgrade, 1982-1987), Transkatalog (Novi Sad, 1995-1998), and Anomalija (Novi Sad, 2004).
