Skoro upadek komunizmu był istotnie rewolucją, to czy spowodował także rewolucję w organizacji przestrzeni miejskiej? Jak tkanka miejska odpowiada na obietnice życia po komunizmie? Jaką rolę gra sztuka w tym układzie miejskim? I czy potrafi coś zmienić w życiu współczesnych miast? W projekcie Inne miasto, inne życie naszym celem było użycie sztuki jako eksperymentalnego narzędzia, by dowiedzieć się więcej o miastach w regionie określanym mianem Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, a w szczególności o Warszawie. Jak postrzegają artyści porządki przestrzenne, estetyczne, społeczne i polityczne zaistniałe w miastach tego obszaru po przemianach rozpoczętych na przełomie lat 80. i 90. minionego wieku?
Książka dokumentuje prace artystów z Polski i innych krajów z tak wyobrażonej mapy zrealizowanych w trakcie eksperymentalnego projektu realizowanego między kwietniem a wrześniem 2008. Część z nich powstała w Warszawie, a część zaprezentowana została w formie archiwum prac z innych miast tej części Europy. Jest to dokumentacja szeregu wydarzeń i bardzo różnorodnych interwencji, poprzez które artyści próbowali zmierzyć się z „innym miastem”.
If the fall of communism was indeed a revolution, what kinds of organisation of the space of cities does it propose or imply? How has the fabric of the city responded to the promises of post-communism? What role does art play in the new urban configuration? Can art change anything in the life of contemporary cities? Our aim in the project Another City, Another Life was to use art as an experimental tool to try to learn more about cities in the region referred to as Central and Eastern Europe, and in particular Warsaw. How do contemporary artists perceive, represent and engage in spatial, esthetical, social and political regimes that have been developed in various cities of East Europe since the decisive changes at the end of the 1980s, early 1990s? This book is a record of works by artists from Poland and other countries cities on the map thus sketched, It is a documentation formed in the course of an experimental project that ran from April — September 2008. The majority of the works were created in Warsaw, while another section is comprised of an archive of artistic interventions from other cities in this region. The book is thus a record of a series of events and very varied interventions through
which artists attempted to explore the nature of the ‘other city’ and test strategies for bringing about change.
